I was amazed to see that at every railway crossing there where attendants on duty. Even way out in the country the uniformed sentry on duty holds his flag up high, even though there's not a soul around. Theres no automation here. Where there was waiting traffic the air thick with idling motor scooters, rising smoke and eager stares. It took an hour of traveling before we started seeing the countryside with plantations and nurseries as far as the eyes could see.

The Dragon fruit plants were most unusual being cactuses that grow up and over a concrete post.
